Another Cosmic-Enforced Slowdown Ahead - Brought to you by Mercury Retrograde

by Karen M. Winkelman

Sunday, June 29, 2025

Picture of space with the words "Cosmic-Enforced Slowdown Ahead... Brought to you by Mercury Retrograde"Yes, friends, July's Mercury’s retrograde period is initiating another Cosmic-Enforced Slowdown Ahead.

As if the energy of June wasn’t enough to stir the pot, here comes Mercury, ready to play with us some more!

Consider this your PSA

Mercury is lining up for its second retrograde period of 2025.

We will close out June with the start of the pre-retrograde shadow on Monday, June 30th. Adding yet another Shadow element to the mix.

(We’ve been heavy in the shadows all of June. You can read more about that in my numerology forecast for June here).

Mercury retrogrades signal a “start-nothing-new” zone, and generally create a slowdown effect. This dovetails perfectly with the energy of July. The 7-vibration also wants you to slow down and be introspective. (More about that in my July Numerology Forecast.)

Here are the dates for the June / July / August 2025 Mercury Retrograde Period:

  • Pre-retrograde Shadow: June 30 – July 16
  • Retrograde: July 17 – Aug 10 (in Leo)
  • Mercury goes direct on August 11 (in Leo)
  • Post Retrograde Shadow: Aug 12 – 25

Might I suggest that you make a note of these dates in your calendar?

Although Mercury is technically only in retrograde from July 17 to August 10 (a little over 3 weeks), when you factor in the pre- and post-retrograde shadows, you are under Mercury’s influence for almost two months (all of July and most of August). It’s an 8-week cosmically induced slowdown.

Those pre- and post-retrograde periods also have an effect on communications, technology, and schedules.

Slowdown doesn’t mean retreat into your cave and wait till it passes. (Although I can understand why you might want to!)

Continue working on things that you have already started.

Be flexible and adaptable because  schedules may change at a moment’s notice (or no notice), and there may be miscommunication and technology weirdness.

Indecision and doubt and frustration over not gaining traction or momentum may pop in too.

Another area that’s favored is revitalizing something from the past.

Work on that project, idea, or thing that you wanted to work on years ago, or started sometime in the past, and then shelved it for whatever reason.

The energy of the 9-year and Mercury Retrograde periods support these activities.

Both the 9-Year and Mercury Retrograde periods tend to bring up the past in some way.

People, relationships, projects, activities, situations, locations, opportunities or anything from your past.

There is usually something hidden there for you if past people, places, or things show up.

Revisit it, release it, or reconnect with them in some way… or decide if it is something or someone you’d like to include in your life going forward.

Or permanently delete it.

The 5 most common areas affected by Mercury Retrograde and its Shadows:

1) Technology Glitches:

All electronic devices and technology-related things tend to act up and misbehave, often in very odd ways… BTW, these now include AI glitches

2) Communication Breakdowns:

Miscommunications (written, email, spoken, social media posts, news outlets, and so on), misinterpretations, and misunderstandings

3) Unexpected Changes:

Schedule changes, appointment cancellations, and plans changing again and again… and people flaking out on you

4) Disappearing Acts:

Missing or incomplete information, things get lost or go missing, including important notices, emails, texts, phone messages, and so on.

Beware the weird “ghost save” effect – you’re sure you saved something or filed something, and poof, it’s gone.

5) Irritating Mix-ups:

Misreading or misinterpreting things (especially the energy, what someone means, what you hear or read).

Wrong merchandise showing up (or what you order never shows up), your food order gets messed up, etc.

Wrong information gets entered when you are making plans, and confusion abounds (you think it’s “This,” but it’s actually “That”).

Since July’s 7-vibration is also a science and technology number, this Mercury Retrograde Period may show some new aspects in tech issues and glitches.

AI disruptors are factoring in here too, as well as some sloppy science and pseudo-science presenting as “truth” or discoveries that are unfounded, misinterpreted “facts and statistics,” and not true.

If you use AI or even an AI-powered search engine, double-check everything; don’t trust that the information is accurate.

And always tap into your intuition… does it resonate as true for you!

Actually, double-checking everything throughout this period is an excellent practice.

If you’d like to know more about what Mercury Retrogrades are good for, and are not good for, here’s my blog post about it: To Do or Not To Do, Mercury That is the Question

Bottom Line

Be flexible. Lighten up. Slow down. Double-check everything.

Practice patience and self-compassion.

Pause, breathe, re-center.

Stressing out or pushing won’t get you there faster… and it might slow you down even more because you may miss an important piece of information.

You got this.

With appreciation for you,

Karen
