Have a question? We would love to hear from you. Send us your questions and we will answer them either by posting them on our blog or by email.

Music has the power to lift you up and shift you.

So what are you listening to these days?  What is the soundtrack in your head?

What emotions does the music evoke?

Is it uplifting, inspiring, soothing, positive, filled with possibilities?

Or is it sad, angry, numbing, blaming, jarring, at odds with the world kind of thing?

Music can be all this and more. It can help you create, it can feed your spirit, it can make you feel like someone “gets you” (in either a positive or negative way), it can bring you to tears to help you move stuck grief; it can relax you and help you concentrate, or sleep.

So what kind of music do you listen to regularly? It is having an influence on you… even if it is subliminal.

I love many kinds of music (I have quite eclectic music tastes!).  And I choose music to fit my mood, change my mood, enhance my mood, or to help me reach a more creative space.

Yet some of the music I love has some downer lyrics. So I try not to indulge in them all the time.

If you love the beat of a song and the lyric runs along the lines of: “Life is crap, people are crap. What’s the point?”
You need to understand that you are absorbing the energy or vibration of that lyric if you listen to it often.
The more you listen to it the more it embeds in your subconscious mind.
So after a few weeks of it you may realize you are feeling depressed and life feels like crap and you don’t know why.

Hmmm…. Perhaps you need to vary your personal soundtrack!

I suggest you tune into a different channel and vary the music a bit rather than feed the self-esteem gobbling gremlins.

Choose your music to feed your spirit, your hopes and dreams.

Music can inspire you to be more of who you are and came here to be.

Music can open your heart and help you take action.

Find music that does this for you. Even for a short amount of time each day.

My clients know I love to sing and I often make up new lyrics to catchy songs as a way to shift my vibration and feel happy when I’m feeling out of sorts or tired or just need a shot of pure love energy.

Sometimes I sing a couple of these songs before a class or speaking engagement to get my vibration up so I can better serve those who showed up to work with me or hear me speak.

Here are some of my tried and true favorites (they always work for me).

Maybe you’ll find one that works for you too!

Some I sing with their original lyrics intact, others, I change the lyrics to fit the need (with all due respect to their composers/authors). Plus, I don’t always sing the entire song, just these phrases over and over till I feel it.  It lifts my energy and I feel lighter.

Oh What a Beautiful Morning (from the musical Oklahoma)
“Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day, I’ve got this wonderful feeling, everything’s going my way.”

Everything’s Coming Up Roses (from Gypsy)
“Curtain up, light the lights, you’ve got nothing to hit but the heights. Starting here, starting now, (your name) everything’s coming up roses.”

Get Happy (Judy Garland)
“Forget your troubles, come on get happy. Chase all your cares away. Shout Hallelujah, come on get happy. Today is a wonderful day.”
[instead of the original “Get ready for the judgment day” which sounds like a downer!]

This next one is my no-fail, go-to song when I need a quick pick me up (you can’t help but smile when singing this song!).  I switch it up with different lyrics to fit the situation…

Zippity Do Dah (Disney’s Song of the South)

“Zippity doo dah, Zippity ay, my oh my what a wonderful day, *plenty of good things coming my way*, Zippity doo dah, Zippity ay”
[*instead of the original “plenty of sunshine headin my way”]

“Zippity doo dah, Zippity ay, my oh my what a wonderful day, plenty of money coming my way, Zippity doo dah Zippity ay”

“Zippity doo dah, Zippity ay, my oh my what a wonderful day, I choose to be happy in every way, Zippity doo dah Zippity ay”

Let it Snow (Christmas carol):

I just sing the refrain over and over when I find I get stuck or triggered by something…
“Let it GO, Let it GO, Let it GO…”

If you feel like you want more of the song to sing, here’s an example:

Original Lyrics: “Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, and since we've no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! “

New Situation-Specific Lyrics: “Yes what happened just now annoyed me, yet it has no power over me, so why am I holding on, Let it go! Let it go! Let it go!”

Seriously, any of these will bring a smile to your face and help lift your mood.

And yes, many are show tunes – I like them because they’re big, bold and get you moving. (Plus I did a lot of musical theatre in my younger days!).

If  you’re not familiar with these songs you can always Google them and find a clip of the song on YouTube.

And NO, you don’t have to be able to sing to shift your vibration with the magic of music... You just have to be willing to sing and give it a try!

You can even use musical affirmations…

One of the best ways I know of to get into the habit of repeating affirmations many times a day… Sing them!

Even if you’re only singing them silently in your head. The music adds a bit more juice to the affirmations you are using.

Here’s an example using a children’s nursery rhyme:

“I see the moon and the moon sees me. God bless the moon and God bless me.”

Change to:

“I love my life and my life loves me. Everything’s working out perfectly.”

“I love life and life is good to me. I make money so easily.”

Experiment with music magic for the next couple of weeks and see how it helps you raise your vibes.

Pick your own favorite tunes and come up with your own lyrics or affirmations to address your specific situation.

Have fun playing with this!

Musical Blessings to You!
